A countdown timer fills the front screen of Hanyang University's conference hall while student teams build apps on laptops at every table

135 students from many schools
built 39 apps
in one room.

This was the middle and high school Data & AI track hackathon of the 2026 AI Donghaeng Project.
Students from schools in different regions came to Hanyang University on September 19.
In the morning they framed a topic through AI ethics, and in the afternoon each team spent two and a half hours building an app.

The theme of this hackathon
“Solving problems around us with fair and safe AI”

The theme was AI ethics. Each team took one lens — fairness, safety or accountability —
and turned a problem close to home into an app: a bad smell in the neighborhood, walking home at night, disaster alerts, school lunch waste.
At the same time, in a separate room, the accompanying teachers took a training session on teaching AI ethics.

To run many schools at once
The program sets the direction and who takes part,
Jitda runs the rest.

What the AI Donghaeng Project decided was the track theme and the participating schools.
Jitda took on the venue setup and laptops, the timetable, the build environment and on-site mentoring on the day, and publishing to the gallery.

Many schools in one room

Students from different regions and grades moved on the same timetable. Gathering once meant 39 teams delivered work on the same day, on the same theme.

Student and teacher tracks at the same time

While the students planned and built their apps, the teachers who came with them took a training session on teaching AI ethics and a mini hackathon in a separate room.

A build environment with nothing to install

Students only had to open a browser. Laptop specs and install permissions were nothing the venue had to deal with.

Shared straight away in a gallery walk

Each app went up to the gallery the moment it was built, and other teams opened it and left comments. The links still work today.
